Sally Ward Slough Summer Dusk Cicada Crickets and Thunder: 12:44 minutes

Sally Ward Slough, part of Wakulla Springs, is lined with amazing native plants along the banks that host cicada, crickets, frogs, birds and so much more. Native plants provide the infrastructure for life here. 12 minutes of early night audio - Sony recorders, Clippy microphones, dry bags and windbubbles. July 2022 part of a 48 hour recording event.

Chuck Will's Widow Calls & Canis Pack: 20:42 minutes

Twenty five minutes of Chuck Will's Widow calls from a fringe savannah-flatwoods wet tract of St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, coyotes calling in the background. The Chuck Wills Widow is a fascinating, well-camouflaged bird who lays their eggs not in a typical nest but directly on the ground in a pile of leaves. They feed on insects at night and are often heard calling out in a seemingly endless chorus of 'Chuck Will's Widow' song, echoing back and forth between other nearby Chuck Will's Widows. Some say this incessant calling back and forth, all night long can be quite annoying. Sony PCM M10, Clippy 272s and furry windbubbles with a waterproof drop bag. May 23, 2021. SMNWR.

Midnight Marsh, Leopards & Pigs: 1:02:08

One hour field recording along brackish marsh pond edge in the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge 11pm until midnight April 2022. Two species of frogs are calling, Pig frogs, Lithobates grylio and Southern Leopard frogs, Lithobates sphenocephalus. Southern field crickets in the background. Breezy evening, no rain and clear skies. Sony PCM recorder, LOM MikroUsi pair, drybags & windbubbles. Recorder stationed interior to a large wax myrtle, Morella cerifera.

Coyote Calls, Port Leon Road, SMNWR: 6:22 minutes

Coyote Pack reconciliation calls after a midnight hunt in the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. Recorder placed in a mixed hardwood slough in the midst of a wet pine flatwoods. Sony PCM with stereo microphones in dry bags. Waxing moon, light rain. November 2021. The acoustics of the flatwoods are complex. An abundance of water surface creates wave reflection and 'echos' as well as does the fire influenced open midstory under the acres and acres of pines. Note: Coyote calls are usually a signal for the pack to regather or to call juveniles after nighttime excursions and not necessarily to signal a kill.

Sawgrass Dominated Coastal Flatwoods Night Ambience: 59:19 minutes

Southern field cricket syncopated trills gently fill this hour long pine flatwoods and wet sawgrass 11pm nature audio. Highly laid back & chill, besides the crickets there are background Chuck Will's Widow and Barred Owl callings and the splash of water as frogs and other wildlife move about. Listen closely and alligator grunting and curious raccoon rustling can be heard off in the distance. The night is very still with no or little wind noise. This audio is perfect for healing, studying, relaxation, sleeping or general peaceful forested background nature audio. St Marks National Wildlife refuge Primitive Trail about one mile east of Lighthouse Road. June recording, early summer. Sony PCM recorder (drybag protected), LOM MikroUsi mics with windbubbles.

Barred Owl & Southern Cricket Frogs: 21:31 minutes

Early evening frog and barred owl calls across shallow freshwater pond in pine flatwoods west of Lighthouse Road in the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge (SMNWR). Frequent wind gusts are audible as well as Southern field crickets. This audio is a twenty minute chorus of cricket frogs interspersed with barred owl calls, typical of wet, freshwater flatwoods night sounds. Dry bag protected Sony PCM recorders, with fuzzy windshields and clippy lav mics.

Approaching Marsh Rainstorm, Deluge, Drizzle: 1:31:21

One hour and thirty minutes of early morning rainstorm approaching marsh edge where I had #Sony recorders set up along the banks of a tidal wetland lined with sawgrass, black rush and cordgrasses. Storm audio increases with intensity as the clouds approach. When the storm is directly overhead of the microphones, a deluge occurs and the downpour continues for approximately 20 minutes until subsiding into a steady, slow drizzle that lasts through sunrise. Recorders stationed overnight along the eastern banks of Tower Pond in the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. Sony PCM recorders, Clippy microphones, Windbubbles & Drybags.

Midnight Pig Frog Conversations: 1:02:08

One hour of midnight Pig Frog, Lithobates (Rana) grylio back & forth conversations in a fresh to brackish water shallow pond south of the SMNWR fire tower at HQ pond. Southern Cricket Frogs, Acris gryllus & Southern Leopard Frogs, Lithobates (Rana) sphenocephalus call in the background with Southern Field Crickets. Gryllus rubens. This audio clip exemplifies southern midnight marsh sounds; very 'old-Florida'. Sony PCM recorders, LOM MikroUsi lavs, windjammers, drybags & Ladda power cells.
