Dry Bags
Dry Bags
Camofluage and protection from moisture are the two main reasons to keep the recorders in a dry bag while field recording.
Most recorders can reflect sun or moonlight and scare off wildlife. A green colored or camo-leaf patterned water proof bag not only keeps the recorder dry, free from rain, dew and humidity but also hides the electronics from target wildlife and also from would-be curious humans who may interrupt the recording session by examining or even taking recorders left in the woods.
I like these green colored dry bags available on Amazon:
I've also seen dry bags made from camoflauge material.
Typically I use two of these dry bags, an inner smaller bag around the recorder and then a larger bag containing the recorder and bag along with several laminated business cards and a copy of any permits or permissions associated with the location I am recording in.
These bags have been through serious rain, lightening and windstorms and never once allowed the recorders to become damp much less wet.
You can really never have enough of these dry bags on hand to protect field recording equipment.
